HPCLT - Dùn Coillich Project: Press release re avian ecology event

PRESS RELEASE

EVENT: Enhancing the avian ecology of Dùn Coillich

DATE: FRIDAY 30TH MAY from 10:15 am
VENUE: Dùn Coillich
"Bringing the Environment Closer to Home"

Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust [HPCLT] is calling on everyone to lend a hand to improve their local environment. It wants to prise people free of their armchairs and get them involved in their local community by helping on their SNH Biodiversity project.

Volunteers from Pitlochry High School will be involved in planting trees, sowing wildflowers, erecting nest boxes and feeding stations. The newly erected Observation and Educational Facility [The Oef] will need a second coat of preservative. Dùn Coillich is delightful community owned land just east of Schiehallion with easy access from the B846 and good car parking.

The activity is part of a five-month campaign called CSV Action Earth supported by Morrison Supermarkets. As part of this year's campaign, SNH (Scottish Natural Heritage) will be supporting an extra 50 projects in Scotland through the SNH Biodiversity Award, aimed at groups that will help support & encourage Scottish biodiversity through practical environmental projects.

Robin Hull, who is co-ordinating the project on Dùn Coillich, wants to see as many people as possible come along to help on the day.

"Everybody can get involved in conserving biodiversity. It is a shared resource and a shared responsibility. From the smallest individual action to a national campaign, every contribution helps! The Action Earth Biodiversity Awards are designed to help groups of volunteers take practical action to improve and create places for wildlife."

If you fancy learning new skills, improving your local environment and having fun at the same time, call Robin Hull on 01887 840380 or email robin@carnliath.fsnet.co.uk

If you would like to register your own project or think you can come up with a good project idea, then please take part in the campaign. Call the CSV Action Earth hotline on 0121 328 7455.
